FTSE 100 called higher at the outset
The FTSE 100 is called to open higher this morning following confirmation over the weekend of the deal to increase the size of the euro zone firewall and news that Chinese manufacturing activity improved more than expected in March. The domestic economic focus today will also be on the release of the latest manufacturing data and this willl be followed this afternoon in the US with the ISM manufacturing figures and construction spending (see below). Commodity prices are generally higher helped by the Chinese data and on the foreign exchanges, the major currency pairs are trading in narrow ranges. It is a quieter start to this shorter UK trading week in terms of corporate news this morning.
GlaxoSmithKline Phase III Dolutegravir in HMV Study. It has announced that results from the SPRING-2 Phase III study has met its primary endpoint for dolutegravir in treatment naive patients, marking an important milestone for the development of dolutegravir and the Shionogi-Viiv Healthcare JV (the latter being a specialist JV company established by Glaxo and Pfizer).
Goals Soccer Centres Press Speculation. It has confirmed weekend press speculation regarding a preliminary approach by the Ontario Teachers Pension Plan, but adding that there was no certainty that an offer will be made for the company.
