FTSE 100 called higher at the outset
The FTSE 100 is called to open higher this morning on Greek poll results showing that the country's pro-bailout party was ahead although sentiment is likely to remain cautious due to ongoing developments in Spain. The start of the week sees no domestic economic data due out today and with the US on holiday as well as the French and Germans, volumes may well be low. Commodity prices are generally firmer and on the foreign exchanges, the euro is higher against the dollar on the back of these latest Greek poll results.
Diageo Acquisition. It has reached agreement with Ypioca Agroindustrial Limitada to acquire its cachaca brand, Ypioca and certain production assets for BRL900m (GBP300m) cash. The transaction is expected to complete in a month and according to Diageo expands its presence in Brazil and gives it the leading premium brand in the largest local spirits category.
AVEVA Group Preliminary Results saw adjusted PBT rise 14% to GBP62.3m on revenue ahead 13% at GBP195.9m. The full year dividend is raised 15% to 21p a share and added that it was confident about prospects for 2012/2013.
